Snacking tomatoes for the consumers of the future

Fifteen children had a tomato party this week. Syngenta Seeds was the organiser. It was all about snacking tomatoes. And there was plenty of snacking. It's great to be able to eat as many tomatoes as you want. The children had a lot of fun.

Before they were set free in the kitchen, Kris Goen took the kids into the Tomato World greenhouse. In white jackets, according to modern hygiene protocols, Kris told them all about the colours, sizes and shapes tomatoes come in. She also told them about the yellow flowers that turn into tomatoes, about bees that are used to pollinate them, about insect traps and many other tomato related topics.

After the short excursion to the greenhouse, the group moved to the Tomato World kitchen. Marnix van Beschop, chef, spoke about various applications of the tomatoes. And then.. off to work. The kids focused all their attention on the job at hand. All different colours of snacking tomatoes laid the base for fantastic culinary creations.

Then came the fun part, eat them! And, as is customary after a party, the partygoers received a bag of treats when leaving. This time the party favour was a lunch box they could fill with various tomatoes. It will be on its way to school today ... to hand them out in class.
