US (KS): Tornado shatters local greenhouse business

A tornado in Linwood, Kansas, nearly completely destroyed the greenhouses of Pendleton's Country Market on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. The local greenhouse company grows a wide variety of vegetables, bedding plants, and cut flowers.

"Unfortunately, Pendleton's Country Market was hit by the EF-4 Tornado on Tuesday, May 28th. We have sustained a lot of damage and are working to get the farm cleaned up. Because of this, we are currently closed", the company shares. A fundraiser is set up to rebuild the currently disfunctional greenhouses

Last Tuesday a tornado ripped through the town of Lindwood, Kansas, (population of around 400 people) destroying several buildings on its path, including the one of Pendleton's Country Market.

An entire barn was destroyed, as were three greenhouses and five hoop houses, local media reports. Hundreds of plants had been shredded by hail or debris. Equipment was buried under rubble, and the roof had blown off the hydroponic tomato greenhouse. All the windows in their 100-year-old house were shattered.

Also the property of perennial growers State Free State Growers was hit.

Helped by many volunteers the team by Pendleton's is currently cleaning up the farm and making plans for rebuilding. Follow their updates on Facebook.
