Turkey: Tough working conditions for greenhouse workers due to Ramadan

Greenhouse workers in Siirt continue working tirelessly despite tough working conditions during the month of Ramadan.

Baykan Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Yusuf Tardu: “Our area is growing continuously in greenhouse production. Greenhouse workers are fasting and keep working in greenhouses. As the planting period coincided with Ramadan this year, it has been especially challenging. The temperature in Siirt has gone up to 35 degrees and the temperatures felt in greenhouses are much higher, so fasting greenhouse workers are really having a difficult time, but they still keep working at full speed to ensure that the production does not suffer any delays. We appreciate all the hard work they put in.”

Greenhouse workers echoed the same sentiments and noted the difficulty of working in greenhouses under direct sunlight without water, but they also believe this type of fasting is more rewarding and will continue working the same way until the end of Ramadan.
