Last week, prices for greenhouse cucumbers increased, while those of tomatoes dropped somewhat. According to a report by the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UPOA), “in the greenhouse cucumber market after a rapid decline in prices and further leveling, …sellers were able to see prices go upwards. The main cause for this situation was bad weather.”
According to the Ukrainian Horticultural Association, due to a decrease in supply with more or less stable demand, the range of selling prices at the end of the reporting period was 16-23 hryvnia per kilogram (€0.54-.078), while products from tunnel greenhouses were offered at minimum prices.
“As for the tomato market, the following week brought no surprises. Prices in this segment continued to decline, but this was due to other factors. Firstly, this is an increase in the market supply of Ukrainian tomatoes, and secondly, the inflow of imported products from Poland and Turkey,” the association explains.
This means that suppliers of imported products were satisfied with prices in the range of 25-30 hryvnia per kilogram (€0.78-1.02). This resulted at the end of last week, in local tomatoes being offered at no more than 36 hryvnias per kilogram (€1.22).
