Tomato harvest has started in greenhouses in the Kirikhan district of Hatay, a city located near the southeastern border of Turkey.
Grower Huseyin Sahverdi: “We are harvesting products in a greenhouse of 1.5 hectares. Tomato has very high production costs and we expect around 9 tons of products from 1,000 square meters.
"During the month of Ramadan, we have difficulty finding workers to work in the greenhouse. The temperature in greenhouses is around 37 degrees and during Ramadan, this has been a very challenging work environment for people who are fasting. As a result, we have cut down the working hours for the greenhouse workers to 6 hours per day.”
