Starting in August 2019, meal box supplier Middagsfrid, part of Axfood, will no longer use products that were supplied via air freight. “Our customers increasingly attach great importance to sustainability and the environment. That’s why our recipes are made based on fresh products that were preferably grown in Sweden or imported using other methods of transportation,” says Mikael Sahlsten of Middagsfrid in a press release.
Lemongrass, papaya, sugar snap peas, sugar peas and asparagus are examples of products not grown in Europe in winter, and which have a short shelf life, so that they’re almost always transported to Sweden via air freight. That’s why similar products will no longer be used in the recipes.
