UK: National Vegetarian Week

This week is National Vegetarian Week, and The Vegetarian Society are calling on people across the UK to stop eating meat and consume more greens.

Having access to healthy fruit and vegetables is so important to the charities and community groups FareShare supports and we have seen a huge demand from our network for plant-based foods. In the last year alone, FareShare have distributed over 886 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables to our network of charities. That’s enough for a massive 2,109,556 meals.

Monaghan Mushrooms Group Chief Commercial Officer, Noel Hegarty said: “We’ve been working with FareShare for nearly two years and are proud of the work that they do across all of the UK providing support to all those in need.”

Fareshare.org.uk also quoted him as saying: “We at Monaghan Mushrooms are delighted that our surplus mushrooms are re-distributed to many charities and community groups across the UK, helping to provide tens of thousands of nutritious meals to those people facing hunger in our communities. We hope that our food will help fight hunger and ensure that no person goes a day without a hearty meal.”
