Afghanistan: 195 greenhouses yield produce in Nangarhar province

The Nangarhar Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Directorate reports that 195 commercial greenhouses were recently utilized in the province.

These greenhouses have been built by the Community Based Agriculture and Rural Development Project (CBARD) in a number of Nangarhar districts.

Hundreds of these greenhouses have reached harvest.

So far 200 kilograms of cucumber have been taken from each of these greenhouses.

The remaining 95 of these greenhouses have been used to cultivate cucumber and tomato, the yield of which will be supplied to the market in the near future.

The Community Based Agriculture and Rural Development Project (CBARD) has developed a training program in order to increase the production of these greenhouses. The training includes proper use of chemical fertilizers, greenhouse irrigation system, ways of preventing vegetable pests and diseases, and proper maintenance of plastic of the greenhouses.

As a result of these training programs, farmers can harvest 23-25 times in a year, which will total 4,600 kilograms of cucumber from each of these greenhouses.
