Duckweed and grower eagerly awaiting approval from Brussels

Dutch grower Hans Roelofs grows water lentils, also commonly known as duckweed. It is an experiment that was started in 2015, pending permission to use the duckweed, full of proteins, for human consumption. That permission must come from Brussels.

Water lentils are already being consumed in Asia. According to European regulations, research will first have to take place and, based on the results, a decision will be made as to whether permission will be granted for human consumption. "Time will tell," says grower Hans Roelofs.
