Aad Verkade, Pritec Techniek en Montage:

"More growers are taking preventive measures"

ToBRFV in tomatoes and peppers, ralstonia in roses: the disease pressure is increasing. Especially when no ways have been found yet to nip the virus in the bud, it is of great importance to minimize the risk of infection.

Disinfect hands and feet
That is why growers nowadays increasingly place a so-called Hygiene Street at the entrance of the greenhouse. Just simply walking in and out is out of the question. Upon entering you come across a turnstile that only opens if you have put both hands in a dip bath with disinfectants. If the gate swings open, you walk over a mat with a disinfectant, so that your legs and feet are also disinfected.

Focus on prevention
Aad Verkade with Pritec Techniek en Montage has been supplying the Hygiene Streets for more than ten years. He sees that over the years, prevention has become increasingly important. “More growers are taking preventive measures, because if things go wrong, they go awfully wrong. Compared to the damage caused by a virus, the purchase of a Hygiene Street is peanuts."

Pritec's Hygiene Streets are not only frequently purchased by Dutch growers, they are also sold abroad. Aad: "At some companies an adjustment has to be made so that you can only enter the greenhouse via the Hygiene Street, making a detour impossible."
