In Paimpol, in the department of CĂ´tes-d'Armor in the Brittany region, a greenhouse of more than 3 ha of tomatoes was destroyed by a weedkiller in what could be a criminal act.
The police force is looking for the perpetrator(s) of this act. According to initial analyses, the weedkiller used has not been marketed since 1992 and was not on the farm. "We no longer use synthetic pesticides," says the operator. We were victims of a malicious act," explains the greenhouse owner.
Between grubbing-up, replanting, loss of income and other matters, the cost of the damage amounts to approximately one million euros.
