Guinness Word Record for the longest strawberry cake in the world

The longest strawberry cake in the world enjoyed during an event in Scanzano Jonico on April 28th 2019 took 300 hours, 3500 eggs, 103 kg of flour, 100 kg of sugar and 800 kg of strawberries to make.

The huge cake was made by master bakers Salvatore Di Trani, Dolce Voglia di Dartizio/Rapanaro, Dolci Privilegi di Angelo Corbino, Vincenzo Mastropierro alongside volunteers from the Santissima Annunziata parish. It was 60.48 meters long while the previous record was set in France (32.24 meters). Over 3000 people attended the event and ate the 1100 kg cake.

The cake was 60.48 meters long, 11.5 cm high and 40 cm wide (over 100 assembled cakes). The event also had the purpose of promoting strawberries from Basilicata on an international level.

Over 800 kg of Sabrosa strawberries were made available by the Piraccini Secondo company, which also set up the event.

"We must not be worried about the overproduction and drop in consumption. Considering the fact that, despite the bank holiday, festivities (April 25th and May 1st) are in the middle of the week, we wanted to promote not only Basilicata but also this excellent produce," refers Valchirio Piraccini.

With the strawberry campaign in full swing, the Basilicata region and its 1000 hectares (+13% than last year) showed just how much care and professionalism lie behind the production of this fruit and set a Guinness World Record.
