Temperatures increase

China: Large volume of chilli peppers about to enter market

Every year in March and April the vegetable market enters a period where the reserves of autumn vegetables run out and the supply of spring vegetables is not yet fully under way. This is not just the case for chilli peppers, the supply volumes of all kinds of vegetables are shrinking. People in the industry state that some pepper production areas had a reduced production volume last year, which means that the supply volume is especially small this year, and the price has therefore risen higher than usual.

Experience from previous years suggests that the current price increase is part of the regular, seasonal price increase. Now that the temperatures are rising, the supply volume of chilli peppers will grow. When the peppers from the new production season enter the market, the price will certainly come down to regular levels.
