Dutch growers add new pyrethrin-based insecticide to their arsenal

Tomato, pepper, cucumber, eggplant and courgette growers in the Netherlands will shortly have a new insecticide based on natural pyrethrins available. Spyro has recently been authorised for use in these protected crops. The Dutch Board for the Authorisation of Plant Protection Products and Biocides (Ctgb) took this decision at the end of March 2019. Biobest will market Spyro in the Netherlands.

"This authorisation is a welcome solution for the Dutch greenhouse horticulture, which has seen existing pyrethrin-based products disappear from the market in recent years", the company shares in a news release. Spyro is a plant protection product based on natural pyrethrins and PBO (piperonyl butoxide). PelGar International manufactures the product and is the registration holder.

Available mid-June
Biobest Group holds the exclusive distribution rights for Spyro in the Netherlands. The product is expected to be available to Dutch growers mid-June.
