Wittenberg Gemüse GmbH will be harvesting greenhouse cultivated strawberries from greenhouse cultivation for the first time next autumn. This new cultivation division will confront the company with new challenges, says Managing Director Helmut Rehhahn in an interview with the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung. "Above all, the cold chain has to show its worth. That's going to be exciting."

With these new fruits, they want to be just as successful as with their tomatoes and peppers. If all goes well, the company will also be selling open field strawberries next year.
Acreage to be extended to 30 hectares
These are to be grown in an area of between 10 and 30 hectares nearby. But Rehhahn wants to start small, working their way up to 30 hectares. And then there will also be a greenhouse, which has yet to be built. But that is still in the future. What berries will be harvested there, is not clear yet. Only time and the market will tell.
