Turkmenistan opens 6-hectare tomato greenhouse for export

Built by Nahal and Kerwen Gurluşyk Economic Associations in the city of Mary, a modern 6-hectare greenhouse has a projected annual production capacity of 1,200 tons.

Tooled with the latest specialized equipment, the large area is home to high-yielding varieties of tomato. The greenhouse takes advantage of up-to-date technologies used to automatically control temperature, air humidity and to supply the soil with nutrients. Every single tomato plant is expected to produce some 10-12 kilograms of tomatoes.

The new greenhouse will keep the region’s residents well-supplied with ecologically clean crops rich in vitamins. When operating at maximum capacity, the facility will be able to export produce to foreign countries under the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov-initiated state programs aimed at import substitution and growth in exports of Turkmenistan-made products.
