A fast growing European herb specialist asked Boix to create a packaging solution that offers optimal protection for their freshly grown herbs. In order to achieve this, they collaborated with the carting supplier and the customer in the development, the design, and the production of a narrow, stackable platform tray made of corrugated carton with an interior size of only 88 mm. The successful Boix factory acceptance test recently took place
The solution consists of a Boix Q-1800 box machine that can form and glue unfolded sheets of carton at a speed of 1,800 trays per hour into stackable platform trays made of corrugated cardboard. Interesting fact: with an interior size of 88 mm the tray made for the herb specialist is the narrowest tray every set up with a Boix box machine.
From manual to automatic box building
The European herb specialist previously worked with hand folded trays and the boxes were built manually. Thanks to the automatic building processing, aided by gluing, the process is more efficient and the herb specialist will save considerably in the area of labour.
Mixed pallets for retail
An added advantage of the mechanically folded and stable stackable tray is that it will now be possible to supply mixed pallets of herbs to retail. The herb specialist has fitted the larger standard trays with extra stacking nooks on the short sides. This means that three narrow trays of herbs can be stacked on top of a standard sized tray.
