Following the successful launch of the vegetable washing machine at last year's Fruit Logistica, Swiss company Villiger Technik once again managed to develop an innovative process this year. In Berlin, trade visitors were presented with a flexible and reliable system for extracting processing waste. The waste is automatically extracted from the worktables, where vegetables are prepared and packed, after which it is put in a central container. The management already sees great potential for this investment.

Modular construction
The processing tables are connected to a piping system. At set-up intervals or every few minutes, the set-up waste at the tables is automatically extracted. This is done as follows: The set-up waste from the vegetables drops onto the lower band. The finished and ready-to-pack product flows on the upper conveyor belt to the packaging plant. Due to the modular structure of the process, it is possible to install several work tables, where everything is extracted automatically.

Modern problem solving for the vegetable industry
The modern extraction system has already been commissioned at two vegetable suppliers in Switzerland. The feedback is promising, according to Member of the Board Andy Villiger. And the potential demand is also enormous: "After all, each of the same fruits or vegetables has the same problem, namely the moisture and the corresponding waste. Based on the results so far, we have been able to determine that the volumes in the container will ultimately be halved by the use of our plant. As a result, the disposal of vegetable waste - no matter in which area, will be faster, more flexible and also cheaper. In the end, things demand less effort and thus you save labor."
Flexible extension
The extraction system has been specially designed so that you can add additional lines later or adapt the layout of the system. "The system sucks the set-up waste over several hundred meters," says Villiger. Thanks to the flexible piping system, the extraction system can be optimally integrated into existing operations.
