New substrate for blueberry cultivation in containers

Blueberry growers often switch from growing in the open field to container cultivation. A change that had already taken place earlier with other soft fruit such as strawberries and raspberries.

A cultivation process away from the soil has many advantages for growers, according to Greenyard Horticulture. This allows growers to better control the growing conditions with improved irrigation and fertilization strategies. "In close cooperation with a few growers, an innovative substrate has now been developed, in particular for the cultivation of blueberries in containers."

Depending on the cultivation conditions at the growers, the composition of the substrate can be adjusted and also fertilizers and microbial biostimulators can be added to adapt the substrate completely to their needs. The container substrate is also stable for the entire growing period.
