The Spanish Civil Guard has issued a statement regarding its usual checks carried out on vehicles, people and luggage that, coming from Nador, Morocco, disembark in the port of the Almeria.
The agents inspected the belongings of a traveler from Burriana, Castellon, who had said to the agents he had "nothing to declare."
However, hidden in the luggage, the agents found a total of 30 metal containers of 100 grams each containing zucchini seeds. Consequently, the goods were seized, as they had been hidden and not declared.
The agents then filed the corresponding arrest warrant for "the commission of an administrative contraband infraction."
The Civil Guard of Almeria has warned "about the risk of introducing non-native seeds into Spain without the corresponding phytosanitary controls" and added that "intellectual property rights that specifically protect the seeds may also be infringed."
