Collaborating and innovating in Australian horticulture

Several initiatives are rolling out across the Australian horticultural sector in the first half of 2019; bringing together a range of industries with the goal to promote better business, education, and industry growth.

Strategy Consultation Workshops: ‘Your levy, your say, in your region’
In the lead up to the release of their new Strategic Plan in mid-2019, Hort Innovation has been delivering cross-country workshops to gain insights on improving the cohesion between the sector and their business’s direction.

Intended for growers and key industry stakeholders, each workshop gives attendees the chance to share their thoughts on the successes and potential improvements Hort Innovation could make in order to better invest horticultural levies.

The series of workshops kicked off in Orange, NSW on January 29, 2019. Since then they have completed nine workshops across New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia.

Hort Innovation recently provided a strategy consultation update; identifying consistent themes, which will help them improve their business and ensure you’re getting the information and resources you need. These include:

  • More communications and more interactions,
  • Simpler, easier, accessible systems and processes,
  • How the company invests,
  • Environmental factors.

With 11 more workshops still to come in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory, production nurseries and key nursery stakeholders are encouraged to attend. It’s not too late to register. Be sure to check out where your local workshop is being held, and if you can’t attend a workshop, you can still share your ideas online at: https://bit.ly/2AQ5dDW

Hort Connections 2019
AUSVEG and PMA Australia-New Zealand Limited (PMA A-NZ) will be hosting Hort Connections on June 24-26 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Held annually, Hort Connections is a key opportunity for production nurseries supplying the commercial horticulture sector.

The trade show is a great platform for both buyers and sellers across industries to promote the common theme of ‘Growing our Food Future.’

Attracting peak bodies, growers, processors, wholesalers, the food service industry, other industry stakeholders, and even some international speakers – attendees can network, share insights, and learn how to support the growth of their business and industry.

Attendees can wander the Trade Show exhibition, sign up for tours, and listen to interesting speakers that cover topics from Women in Agriculture to Supply Chain & Consumers. Marketers, food columnists, research scientists, and television panelists, will all be presenting, and you too can apply – just head to: https://hortconnections.com.au/apply-to-present-at-hort-connections/

Hort Connections will close with a Gala Dinner, where a series of awards will be presented to recognise leaders and innovators in Australian horticulture.  Early bird registrations close on March 29.
