Schoolchildren who attend the young naturalists’ station take care of the small banana plantation and every 2-3 years gather crops, about 400 pieces.
The greenhouse banana plants do not provide as much crop and as often as they do in their natural habitat and it takes about half a year for them to ripe. Once gathered, the crops are eaten by the young naturalists themselves.
They grow over 200 various plants at the young naturalists’ station, among which there are many exotic spices. In the current period, eucalyptus and murraya are in bloom.
“The children are eager to watch the growth of plants and they are learning to take care of them”, said deputy director of the station, Ms. Tatiana Gerasimenko. “They replant them, fertilize, water and conduct experiments, which results they present themselves in various conferences”.
