For the attentive reader it was already on display at the Strawberry Day, but among the various ornamental pots that Van Krimpen took along to the IPM Essen, it showed up again: the new 4.7 liter pot for soft fruit. Joost Thijssen of the producer of plastic products: "The first production will start at the end of January."
The new pot has a hollow base with a water buffer in the extra deep legs. Substrate can be placed in the feet. But will the roots of the plant not remain too wet? "No", Joost guarantees. "Last year, in tests in strawberry and raspberry cultivation, it turned out that the plants were not too wet." However, too much wetness at the roots remains a fear among many soft fruit growers. "Therefore there is an additional possibility to provide slits in the legs for extra drainage."
On the left a pot with, for those looking closely, the slits and on the right the pot without it. Both pots do not remain wet too long despite the deeper feet, Van Krimpen guarantees after research.
The hollow base has the added advantage that the pots do not sink on the tray field. In addition, the feet make the pots better stackable. "This also makes for a more efficient transport of the pots. If a grower should wish so, we can offer a return system whereby the returned pots are recycled by us. And in any case, the pots are made from 100% recycled plastic."
