Latvian experts in the fruit and vegetable industry expect fruit and vegetable prices to rise due to the dry weather recorded in Europe, reports fruitnews.ru.
Since the productions have been one-third lower than initially planned by growers, this price increase is inevitable. They may go up by as much as 20 percent, said Inguna Gulbe, director of the Latvian Center of Agricultural Economics.
It is already known that In 2019, the prices for some products will increase by 5 to 10%. According to the head of the Association of Latvian traders, Henrik Danusevich, the prices of vegetables like onions, lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes will surely increase. Only exotic fruits (bananas, avocados, etc.) will be slightly cheaper.
Earlier, FruitNews had already reported that the turnover generated by fruit and vegetables in Latvia had increased by over 9% after the reduction of the VAT applied on them.
