The Danish horticulture company, Gartneriet Nældebakken, used to cultivate pot plants. Recently, however, cannabis plants have been placed in their 23,000 m2 greenhouses near Odense, Denmark.
This company was purchased by Spectrum Cannabis after the legalization of cannabis in Canada. Spectrum Cannabis is a subsidiary of the Canadian Canopy Growth Corporation.
“Internationally, we are facing a true revolution in medicinal cannabis. This is accompanied by innovation and research", says John McNeill from Canopy Growth. "It seems that certain substances derived from the plant could fight cancer or osteoarthritis. This all still has to be investigated."
In the meantime, every effort is being made to get Nældebakken suitable for large scale cannabis cultivation. In April, the installation where the medicinal products made from the cannabis will be produced must be ready.
Odense is also happy with the arrival of this medicinal cannabis. According to the local newspaper, Amtsavisen, Odense's Mayor, Peter Rahbæk Juel, sees sufficient possibilities to build a cannabis network on the Danish island of Funen.
