Oerlemans Packaging Group takes over Frisiapack

On January the first 2019, Oerlemans Packaging Group took over the activities of Frisiapack. Frisiapack, located in Heerenveen (Netherlands), specializes in the supply of stretch sleeves that are used for plastic barrels, jerry cans, buckets, bottles and kegs, mainly for packaging liquids.

For many years, subsidiary Oerlemans Plastics has been the main supplier of printed semi-finished products to Frisiapack. This acquisition is therefore a logical continuation of the long-term partnership. The Oerlemans Packaging Group considers sustainability to be of paramount importance. Thanks to this acquisition, the Oerlemans Packaging Group is now also able to supply circular sleeves, according to Joan Hanegraaf. Design for recycling will only become more important in the coming years. By placing a sleeve around a plastic packaging, this will not be contaminated with adhesives or paper labels that are obstructing optimal recycling. The advantage is also that sleeves are easily removed, so that the plastic packaging can be refilled and provided with new sleeves after cleaning.

"This acquisition also has great advantages for customers," according to Andries Smit from Frisiapack. In the course of 2019, the activities will be moved to Oerlemans Plastics in Giessen. The production of the foil, the printing of the foil and the production of the sleeves will then all be done under one roof. This makes for a huge improvement in efficiency. Customers, apart from the environmental benefits, can be supplied faster, and a much wider package can be offered. All knowledge and skills are present at one location, which means that optimal service and advice can be rendered to our clients. Employees who do not move to Oerlemans Plastics, are offered employment at sister company Oosterwolde Plastic Industrie. In other words, a win-win situation for everyone", according to Andries and Joan.

"The Oerlemans Packaging Group is distinguishing itself with its complete package of flexible plastic packaging. With this strategic take-over the package is again expanded further and it supports the strategy of the Oerlemans Packaging Group as a total supplier of plastic packaging and foils: ‘one-stop-shopping’”.

From 1 January 2019, the Oerlemans Packaging Group consists of 7 foil producing companies:

  • Oerlemans Plastics B.V. in Genderen en Giessen
