By 2024 the amount of greenhouse vegetables sold in Russia may increase up to 2 million tons, announced the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Jambulat Khatuov, during the Third Annual International Investment Forum “Greenhouse Complexes of Russia 2018”.
According to Mr. Khatuov, within the past years we have been witnessing the increase of investments in this sphere and stable positive dynamics in the production volume. Thanks to the fact that the recently opened enterprises have achieved full production capacity, fresh vegetable crops have been increasing year after year. Last year the greenhouse vegetable crops exceeded 920 thousand tons, in 2018 the forecast is 1 million tons, and that is a new record in the sector. “Thanks to the successes of the greenhouse vegetable growers, at the moment the provision of the population with the respective produce comprises 57% of the demand compared with 40% in 2015”, noted Mr. Jambulat Khatuov.
According to the results of 2018, about 300 ha of winter greenhouses will have been launched, which makes for a 10% increase compared to last year. As Mr. Khatuov noted, it is necessary for the greenhouse construction companies to orient at internally produced equipment and machinery. In order to fulfil the task of doubling the amount of agricultural produce by 2024, it is important not only to develop the internal market but also to start new external directions, building up export potential, added Mr. Khatuov. According to the speaker, Russian vegetables are competitive in the international arena due to the high ecology factor.
