COAG has denounced an "unjustified" reduction of fruit and vegetable prices at origin due to the roadblocks in France, as reported in a statement.
The protests that are taking place in France are causing delays and making the movement of goods much more difficult, but the shipments are arriving and there is no reason to justify the drop in prices at origin, especially given the shortages in the supply due to the weather conditions.
"The fact is that the roadblocks are only affecting some areas and the shipments, although late, are arriving. There is no justification for the current price drops, of up to 50%, nor for the prospects that this trend will continue," said Andrés Góngora.
At this time, cucumbers, zucchinis and eggplants are the most affected by the fall in prices, but the agrarian organization fears that this trend will extend to other products.
COAG recalled that the free movement of goods is a right that must be guaranteed and is calling on the Government to demand that France enforces the appropriate measures to restore order.
The agrarian organization has also asked the sector, especially the marketers, not to accept any offers that may cause prices to drop unfairly. It also asks the Food Information and Control Agency (AICA) to be vigilant in order to prevent abuses.
