Spain: Agrupalmeria declared bankrupt

The Commercial Court of Almería has declared the bankruptcy of the company Agrupalmería SA, a company that was mainly active in the municipality of Níjar. This is the second incident of this nature affecting the group, which is devoted to intensive agriculture.

The Court's ruling states that Agrupalmería retains the authority to manage its assets, but will have to do so under the supervision of the bankruptcy trustee, Audico Consultores Empresariales.

According to the latest available figures, the company had an active capital of 20 million Euro and debts amounting to 15 million Euro, largely from financial institutions.

Since 1976, Agrupalmería has been devoted to the auction and marketing of tomatoes from Almeria, including Raf tomatoes, on the vine tomatoes and plum tomatoes. In the past seasons, the company was also involved in the sale of melons, peppers, cucumbers, zucchinis, aubergines and beans.
