The West Mediterranean region of Turkey has exported 1.1 billion USD worth of products so far in 2018, a 6.3 % increase compared to the previous year.
The West Mediterranean region is well known for being the center of the Turkish agricultural production especially in tomatoes, cucumbers, citrus fruits and cut flowers. As a result, 15 % of these exports were fresh fruits and vegetables which was worth 314 million USD and exported to 79 countries in total.
The top export destination was China, followed by Germany and Russia. The exports to Germany showed a marked declined compared to the previous year due to hailstorm damage to grapevines in the region. A significant rise was observed in apple exports from the area, which increased tenfold from 1.6 million USD to 16 million USD with 90 % of it being sold to Russia.
