Canada: Monsanto fund supports the future of agriculture

Through a $210,000 grant, the Monsanto Fund is supporting the recruitment of future agri-food leaders into programs at the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC). The grant will support OAC’s Student Liaison Program over the next three years to engage and excite high school students by showing them the educational and career opportunities in agriculture, food and the environment.

“One of the most exciting things about the Student Liaison program is the ability to foster curiosity and a passion for science and agriculture among young people,” says Trish Jordan, Public and Industry Affairs Director for Monsanto Canada.

“The Monsanto Fund seeks out opportunities to enrich existing school programs in the areas of science, technology and agriculture and provide experiential learning opportunities to students that otherwise might not exist.”

The agri-food sector is growing and the demand for competent industry leaders is ever increasing. The sector contributes more than $33 billion annually to Ontario’s gross domestic product and sustains more than 200,000 jobs.
