Paraguay: Authorities seize 30,000 kg of contraband tomatoes
The Technical Department of Customs Surveillance (Detave) seized about 30,000 kilos of tomatoes. It is presumed that all the merchandise is contraband. The procedure was carried out at km 49, in the city of Iguazu in the department of Alto Parana. This is the second seizure of tomatoes in recent days.
The numerous cargo was taken to the Detave base, located in the city of Mariano Roque Alonso, where it will be verified. The customs administration of Chaco will be in charge of the administrative summary.
The tomatoes seized were being transported in a Toyota truck coming from Brazil without the relevant legal documents that prove their formal entry into the country.
The procedure was performed by agents of the Detave with the support of officials of the National Plant and Seed Quality Service (Senave) and personnel of the Department Against Economic and Financial Crimes of the National Police, after intelligence work deployed in the area.
The program to fight against the illegal entry of products carried out by the DNA is developed in coordination with other government agencies.
