In China more and more farmers are starting to change to organic farming. A company that really takes the lead in this business is Magic Season Organics. This company is a family-run company which was launched in 2002. On their farm every product is organic and customers can order a vegetable package online, to be supplied with fresh and organic vegetables every week. Furthermore, they created their own organic fertilizer, which could be of great use to a lot of organic farmers.
“We do not sell our organic fertilizer right now, we just use it on our own lands. We did discuss selling our fertilizer to other farmers, however, we are not sure yet whether we want to put our fertilizer on the market already. This is due to the fact that it needs a lot of training to use, as if you change something in the fertilizer or the process that it takes, the outcome can be really different. Maybe in the future we will sell our fertilizer, but for the coming years we do not have any plans.”
In the past the company experienced some floods and this had a large impact on the company, a lot of crops were destroyed and lot of things needed to be restored. “Of course, we would like to prevent future floods. We did improve the irrigation on the farm and that is actually all we can do. Once it starts raining at the farm, there is really not a lot you can do. Especially in the rain season, when it will rain a few weeks in a row, it is very hard to prevent the place from flooding.”
“Nowadays you can find some of our veggies in the major supermarkets as well, though not with our own logo on it, but with the one of the supermarket. Our main focus is still the package delivering to individual households. We always have a very varied package, because at any given time in the season we have 25 different vegetables available. For example, now in the summer we have a lot of melons, tomatoes, pumpkin, cucumbers, okra, cherry tomatoes and so on. There is a lot of choice and we make good use of rotation of crops on the land.”
“Since so many people were asking about visiting our farm, we are trying to organize a regularly monthly farm tour. though we are still working on it and we hope to have completed it towards September.”
