Kazakhstan: Drip irrigation indispensable in agriculture

Development in the agricultural sector is mainly driven by innovative technologies. There is the system of drip irrigation, helping to increase crop yields in Kazakhstan. The method is widely used in the regions, particularly Mangystau. There, 85% of agricultural farms that grow vegetables and melons on open ground and greenhouses have benefited from the implementation of the irrigation system.

Talant Orazbayev, director of one greenhouse complex: “Productivity has increased by 40 to 50%. Most importantly, it is necessary not only to increase the number of harvests, but also to improve the quality of the produce. Many times we have seen good quality harvests. By 2021, agricultural farms in the Mangystau region will all use drip irrigation systems. The technology will be used in a fruit and berry agro farm in the Zhambyl region. Cherry and apple orchards, walnut groves and vineyards have been set up on an area of 1,000 hectares. According to experts, 25 tons of produce can be collected from one hectare.”
