Romanian Ministry of Agriculture guarantees tomatoes are safe for consumption
The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) announced in a press release that the National Phytosanitary Authority is carrying out inspections in the markets and production sites in order to determine the quality of tomatoes from producers enrolled in the Government Support Program and check the presence of pesticide residues.
"So far, since the arrival of the first tomatoes, 44 samples have been taken and sent for analysis. The result of laboratory tests for completed samples reveals that no consumer is exposed to pesticide residues that could endanger their health," said the MADR statement.
The National Phytosanitary Authority assures that the tomatoes currently on the market supplied by producers from the Tomato Support Program are safe for consumption, and that plant protection products have been used exclusively for the purpose of plant health and have been applied at the dose and under the schedule recommended by phytosanitary inspectors.
Also, controls will be intensified in the coming period, given the higher number of beneficiaries of the program who will be putting tomatoes on the market.
