A Willcox-area greenhouse that once grew fruit, flowers and vegetables will now be used to cultivate medical marijuana.
At its monthly meeting Thursday, April 12, the County Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the application by Peoria-based Green Desert Patient Center.
CEO Kurt Merschman, with Arizona Natural Selections, parent company of Green Desert Patient Center, said the agricultural site would be used to cultivate “60,000 square feet of bloom and 10,000 square feet of vegetation.”
Asked about his awareness of area water issues, Merschman replied that a marijuana greenhouse is “a lower intensity water user than traditional agriculture.”
