US (SD): Global Aquaponics still seeking cash for stalled project

An investor in the Global Aquaponics fish farm near Brookings says he has been assured by the project’s backers that they are continuing to solicit investors for the project.

Jerry Gross, a Sioux Falls accountant, said he was recently told by Tobias Ritesman, the CEO and chairman of Ritesman Enterprises, that attempts are under way to raise money to get the project under construction.

“They’re telling me they are still out there beating the bushes,” Gross said.

Despite the two rounds of fundraising, there has been no progress in building the project, which called for a 40-tank system to grow fish and shrimp, with the nutrient rich water used to grow vegetables. The lack of progress has led to questions about what happened to the money that investors put into the project, questions the FBI is also asking in its investigation into the company and its backers.
