US (MA): Easton farm hopes for another fruitful trip to tomato contest

Easton’s Langwater Farm is gearing up for the annual Massachusetts Tomato Contest, where they’ve won many awards for their tomatoes in previous years.

For Langwater Farm owner Kevin O’Dwyer, the group tomato taste test is a tradition on the morning of the annual Massachusetts Tomato Contest, hosted by the state agriculture department.

Given that the farm has won over a dozen awards at the contest, it’s a tradition O’Dwyer won’t be breaking any time soon.

“We’ll eat so many tomatoes that morning,” he said. “That’s where I rely on my staff to tell me which ones are eating best.”

Langwater Farm, on Washington Street in Easton, offers more than 30 crops throughout the year. But their tomatoes are the only crop that has consistently been recognized on a state level, and O’Dwyer said they are his pride and joy as a farmer.

“They’re our number one crop, and my favorite crop,” he said. “People get excited about them, so I think they’re worth all the extra attention (we give them).”
