US (SD): Global Aquaponics project near Brookings delayed, but 'alive'

A Sioux Falls company's aquaponics project near Brookings has hit some snags, but the company insists it's still "very much alive."

Global Aquaponics announced Thursday it was working on a new development timeline for its planned multimillion-dollar, agricultural food production system after problems with funding and contracting.

“We’d hoped that the project would be further along by now. Unfortunately, unforeseen fundraising and contracting difficulties set back our timetable,” said Tobias Ritesman, Global Aquaponics managing member, in a news release. “Noteworthy progress has been made, however, and headway continues to be made.”

Global Aquaponics said it had obtained the land and put down deposits on "some construction-related services." It still offered commercial aquaponics systems and still had plans to develop "additional production systems" in the future, it said.
