US (VA): New greenhouse for Windsor High School

The Isle of Wight County School Board has approved a $687,232 bid for the construction of a collaboration space, cosmetology lab and greenhouse at Windsor High School.

The project is the first phase of the division's education plan to develop vocational courses at Smithfield and Windsor high schools, which is partly funded through a $7.9 million loan taken out by the Board of Supervisors. The loan payments are contained within the schools budget.

"We're excited, we're looking forward to getting these things in place so the students can start taking advantage of them," School Board Vice Chairwoman Vicky Hulick said Friday. "I'm just glad things are moving and students will be able to take advantage of these programs and these facilities."

The cosmetology lab and greenhouse will cost $544,872 and will be funded by the loan. The collaboration space will cost $142,360 and be funded separately from the fiscal year 2018 general fund as a part of the division's budget, Schools Spokeswoman Lynn Briggs said.
