US (CA):Greenhouse constructor Emerald Kingdom moving to Red Bluff

A Redding Greenhouse manufacturer is uprooting to Red Bluff after failed efforts to move to the Stillwater Business Park in Redding.

Kate Brown, a project manager at Emerald Kingdom Greenhouse, explained they have had a difficult time with the City of Redding.

"Right now we are restricted by minimal square footage here, sharing with neighbors, and we've just outgrown our current location," Brown noted.

"Unfortunately, we had heard a lot about all the issues we were going to run into with Redding," Brown said. "Maybe we had rose-colored glasses on or we thought it would not apply to us, but it is how it ended up. It's kind of disheartening when you are starting a project as a business, a growing business, and anyone you are encountering is saying 'Oh good luck with Redding'," she said.

Brown explained their $500,000 offer to move to the Stillwater Business Park was rejected.

"We've decided to leave Redding based on the red tape we encountered while trying to move into Stillwater," she said. "It's bittersweet we are leaving Redding but we had to go where the opportunity was for the business."

Brown did not disclose how much they offered for the land in Red Bluff but said it was less than $500,000.

They expect to start construction in July.
