US: NSAC welcomes new ag secretary

After nearly 100 days of waiting, American farmers and rural communities finally have their chief advocate in place at USDA. The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition congratulates Sonny Perdue on his confirmation, welcoming him as the newest Secretary of Agriculture.

At his confirmation hearing, and in written answers to questions for the record, Secretary Perdue expressed his commitment to supporting the diversity of American agriculture – including small and mid-sized family farms, organic agriculture, and local and regional food systems. He also noted that supporting farmer- and rancher-led conservation efforts would be one of his four primary goals for USDA.

"We look forward to working with Secretary Perdue to advance the sustainability of agriculture, protect and enrich our natural resources, and empower rural communities across America", the coalition writes in a news release.
