Turkish tomato exports increase by 50%

Although it is the traditional market for tomatoes, which account for half of Russia's total exports of Turkish vegetables, the President of the Western Mediterranean Exporters Union, Mustafa Satıcı, maintains that the import ban has determined exporters to search for alternative markets.

"We sell tomatoes even to the Maldives," said Mr. Satıcı, adding that the export is from Antalya, the main tomato-producing region, to 41 countries in Europe and the Middle East."

Exports reached a value of $65.1 million and Mr. Satıcı expects that by the end of the year they will exceed $180 million.

Exporters belonging to this union believe that their promotion efforts in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia should positively impact in the short term.
