US (TX): Elementary school kids learn the ropes of greenhouse growing
The greenhouse is part of a community garden project that club members have been working on this spring. The Un-Included Club was founded to give Temple children safe and enriching activities.
Beverly Luedke, president of the Temple-South Rotary, said that Un-Included founder Garfield Hawk first had the idea to get a garden started.
“This has been a project two years in the making,” Luedke said. “When I first met Garfield, he’d had this dream of getting a community garden out here.”
But somehow the project kept not coming together.
“When I got to be president of the Rotary Club, I said we’re doing this project,” Luedke said.
“What we’re wanting to do is teach these children you can grow your own food,” Luedke said. “They’ve started a microgreens business and they’re selling food to the Jamaican restaurant.”
