US (IL): Mt. Vernon Township High School bids out greenhouse

Mt. Vernon Township High School has officially placed the new greenhouse project out to bid.

Bids are being sought for the dirt work, concrete, and construction of the new facility, not for the technology. The technology portion — which includes phones, intercoms, clocks, bells and security cameras — will be bid out separately later.

The project involves constructing a 72-by-30-foot greenhouse and a 30-by-50-foot attached headhouse, which is the work center of the facility.

Cost estimates for the greenhouse have risen over time. Initially, the cost was thought to be roughly $225,000, but then the estimate increased to about $300,000, mainly due to engineering, architectural and dirt-work expenses. The exact cost, though, won't be clear until bids are received.
