US (IA): Southeast Polk looking to upgrade aquaponics program

The Southeast Polk agriculture program is looking to revamp its aquaponics program.

After eight years in the new school, Matt Eddy wants to replace the current aquaponics system in hopes of raising more fish.

With the larger equipment, Eddy is hoping to have a full aquaponic program intertwining hydroponic farming into the mix.

The greens and fish that are grown would then be given to the district to use for lunches. This would give the students the experience of growing their own food and then having it served at school.

Eddy is working on getting grants to help fund the $22,400 for the equipment. So far he has received a $5,000 grant from Facebook and a $2,000 grant from Community Choice Credit Union.
