US (IL): Alton High School Robotics Team gets Monsanto grant

A one-time, $5,000 grant was awarded by three Monsanto representatives to the Robotics Team of Alton High School Monday afternoon.

The funds will be used to purchase needed equipment to assemble a robot for the FIRST Championship — a multi-week-long challenge where teams of students design, build and program their own robots to perform specific tasks in a nationwide competition.

The Monsanto grant supports investing in the young innovators at AHS, through the real-world experience the competition provides.

“The students learn not only the science and technical side, but develop leadership qualities and learn how to be apart of a team,” mentor Brian Bergin said of the benefits of the second-year recognition.
