CAN (ON): Union Gas cuts ribbon on expansion in greenhouse sector

Union Gas unveiled its new Leamington Expansion Project, which will help power an additional 55 greenhouse operations.

“So the pipeline will be large enough to service about 570 acres of greenhouse,” said Union Gas spokeswoman Andrea Stass.

There was a ribbon-cutting Thursday to officially inaugurate the project at Pomas Farms, where owner David Braun says he was able to double the size of his greenhouse operations because of the expansion.

The project has actually been up and running since Oct. 28.

Before the expansion, Pomas Farms had 34 acres of space and now can add an additional 38 acres to grow bell peppers.

“It has to be natural gas, anything else would harm the plants,” said Braun.

Braun uses natural gas to heat his greenhouses and he is an advocate for removing the carbon tax on CO2 emissions.
