Australia: Queensland farm survives bushfire by less than a metre

A fire has come breathtakingly close to causing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage to a Queensland farm.

The blaze at Calavos, south-east of Bundaberg, started on the weekend but flared up in hot, windy conditions on Monday.

Multiple fire crews and helicopters were called in to fight the fire, which threatened cane farms and Eden Farms 1.2 hectare property on Fallons Rocks Road.

Farm manager Melanie Power said it came within a metre of the greenhouses.

"Most of the time it was about 10 to 15 metres away from the greenhouse, which was a bit too close for comfort," she said.

"At one point it jumped over (the fence) and it came to within a metre of the greenhouse and took a tree there.

"They've managed to get it under control and put it out pretty quickly, but it was very close."
