Gleaning at the greenhouse

Though the plants have stopped being watered and tended to, the produce still growing inside Salama Greenhouse & Floral Inc. in Boone did not go to waste.

Linda Hora, who works at the Greenhouse, convinced owner Mike Salama to let volunteers harvest what was left of the tomatoes, lettuce and spinach and donate it to local food pantries.

A total of 58 3/4 pounds of tomatoes, 9 1/2 pounds of lettuce and 8 pounds of spinach was harvested by volunteers Wednesday afternoon and delivered to The Salvation Army and IMPACT Community Action Partnership, both in Boone.
